Since inception, DVB has focused on education including Technician Certification programs, full day technician focused programs including live animal demonstrations, food and entertainment (Technician Day).
The Joint Symposium began in 1974; DVB and Metro NY presented the meeting. With the establishment of the New Jersey Branch the first TriBranch Symposium was held in 1984 at the Adam's Mark Hotel.
Doing some quick math, DVB will be 63 this year-almost old enough for retirement. Our membership has dwindled from a high of 650 to roughly 300. The TriBranch has faded away, replaced by a daylong seminar held locally. In its first year, it was very well attended.
Then, COVID hit. Everything stopped. Meetings became virtual, and companies limited physical contact to the most critical functions. Now that things have stabilized, our meetings are poorly attended, and our most recent speaker, brought in from New York, spoke to less than 30 people. For the last 3-4 years, we have had problems filling a slate for elective office, with people running unopposed, or no one running at all. Our election was even cancelled once for lack of a slate. Currently, we have no elected Secretary, no elected Treasurer and no President elect. Not that we are alone; many other branches are experiencing the same issues, and some have already folded. Where do we go from here?
Can we revitalize the branch, and what will it take to do that? What value do you see in DVB?
You will have a chance to share any insights in an upcoming member survey. Please participate and help the board decide the next steps.
