Dr. Harry Rozmiarek Award
The Dr. Harry Rozmiarek Award promotes technician author involvement in local and national newsletters and encourages technicians to submit abstracts to present at the AALAS National meeting. DVB will sponsor one technician each year to attend the AALAS National meeting.
Award
This award consists of an award certificate and $1,000 to be used toward attending the AALAS National Meeting. The $1,000 includes reimbursement that can be applied to the following:
- Registration fee for the AALAS National Meeting
- Hotel costs (reservations can be made the night prior to the beginning of the meeting)
- Transportation costs, such as train, rideshare, airfare, and rental car
- Parking and toll costs if a car is driven or parked at the airport
- Meals (up to whatever the government rate is for the particular site)
The winner is responsible for any personal costs outside of those mentioned above. Workshops may be included as long as the total for the entire trip does not exceed $1,000. Receipts for all reimbursements must be submitted within 30 days of travel. Obligation of recipient:
- The awarded technician must agree to summarize the educational experience gained by attending the AALAS National Meeting and present a summary to either be published on the DVB website or presented at a DVB meeting upon return.
Nominee Qualifications & Criteria
To be eligible for nomination, the candidate:
- Must be a DVB member (membership can be applied for at the time of article submission)
- Must currently be working as a laboratory animal technician (animal care, cage wash, veterinary technician, research technician)
- Must have authored an article or abstract that has been accepted by the appropriate agency (DVB AALAS,
LAS Pro magazine, scholarly journal, abstract for the AALAS National Meeting, TriBranch Symposium, or other laboratory animal-related meeting)
Nomination Process
The application form must be filled out (download form here), signed by the applicant’s supervisor, and returned to the Awards Chair by May 1. The article or abstract and the acceptance of submission documentation must be included with the application.
